Ken’s Network Administration Information

RJ-45 Wiring This website contains information on network administration subjects that I found difficult to learn as I attended the Cisco Network Academy courses at CNM. In order to better understand these concepts, I found it was helpful to "explain" them to myself. Thus these pages were born.

We start out with a basic Subnetting procedure using the time-honoured method of binary. Then we move on to actual examples.

Next we talk about Route Summarization which is used with routing protocols to keep the routing tables to a reasonable size.

In the last section, we show a method to calculate the network address and wildcard mask for Access Control Lists or ACLs.

IP Subnet Problem Generator (David Clauss)
Note: Can hit “ repeat” on the subnet problem generator page to get a new ip address. You can enter a specific IP address and get a problem on that one. Like this: http://www.clauss.us/david/Subneting/?A=16&B=244&C=61&D=173&S=12
